IN BLOOM

Julia Borg

Acrylic and oil, floral paintings featured in the April exhibition at The Phoenicia Malta. In these close-up images of flowers, one sees ample expression in the way broad and wide brushstrokes make up each petal and section of the composition. Each painting is vibrant in expression as well as in the choice of palette. Borg is full of life, and so are her paintings. This collection is very much a reflection of her artistic voyage, her womanhood, and a representation of timeless tales that have been woven into the fabric of women’s lives. And thus, the flower - often seen as the apt representation of women and femininity - is not represented as delicate, but bold, and thus challenges this common ideology.
