Dynamics of Artistic Exchange in the Mediterranean: the Medieval and Renaissance Imprint
Midsea Books, 2024, 448 pp.
This volume of essays came about after two conferences, convened by Dr Charlene Vella titled ‘Dynamics of Mediterranean Artistic Interactions in the Late Medieval and Renaissance periods’. These conferences were held on 9 March 2018 and 10 April 2019 organized by the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Malta Valletta Campus. The conferences aimed to bring the discussion on artistic exchange in the Mediterranean to the Central Mediterranean, to Malta in particular, which was a melting pot of cultures throughout the Middle Ages and which continued in the Renaissance period. The subject of each paper is new and insofar unpublished research that reflects on the presence of artistic exchange that occurred in the Late Middle Ages and the Renaissance across the Mediterranean, particularly related to southern European territories that border the Mediterranean Sea, from Spain to Cyprus.
