Organised by Festivals Malta as part of the Malta Jazz Festival 2022, this was an exhibition of 19 abstract paintings from different periods by the late Charles “is-City” Gatt. The paintings are very much a reflection of his character: reflective and introspective, but energetic at the same time, as one admire in the intense brushwork in the paintings. “City” had a connection with The Phoenicia Malta since he himself organised an art exhibition of his installation “Freedom Fighters” at the iconic hotel that coincided with the Jazz on the Fringe event that he founded and organised. It is therefore fitting that this retrospective exhibition of “City”’s own paintings was held at The Phoenicia Malta. The exhibition also showcased 10 photographs of is-City taken by Sabine Meyer, a member of Frequenzen, a European art group that “City” was also part of.
