LAMPUKI MOQLI
Mariam De Giorgio
January 2023
‘Lampuki Moqli’ was Mariam De Giorgio’s first solo exhibition. Consisting of a collection of serene paintings that possess a certain joie de vivre that is very much a reflection of her character. each. The works are executed in acrylic paint and in what can be called a calligraphic style, and just as a calligrapher’s pen glides across a page, De Giorio’s brush easily moves across each part of the support. The paintings are executed with thickly applied paint and bold outlines, the result of a young yet confident artist at work. Colour contrasts and a play of shadows are amply visible in her work, and De Giorgio has a flair at capturing silhouettes. She also manages to capture and immortalise fleeting moments. De Giorgio’s paintings are not only charming, but reflect the simplicity of life, and she certainly sees the good that there is to be appreciated in the Maltese islands.
